2009 Annual Luncheon Celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the Chicago Council of Lawyers

On October 1, Chicago Appleseed and the Chicago Council of Lawyers will host the 2009 Annual Luncheon, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Chicago Council of Lawyers. Honorable Timothy C. Evans, Chief Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County, will be presented with the Commitment to Justice Award, and Judson H. Miner, Founder and First President, Chicago Council of Lawyers, will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

National Futures Association and Chicago Appleseed publish new Spanish-language guide to help individuals identify and avoid investment scams

National Futures Association announced today that it has published a new Spanish-language version of its investor education booklet entitled Scams and Swindles: An Educational Guide to Avoiding Investment Fraud. The guide describes common characteristics of investment scams and outlines steps individuals can take to avoid them. The Spanish version of "Scams and Swindles" was produced in partnership with Chicago Appleseed Fund for Justice.

Consumer Rights in Illinois

Chicago Appleseed has created the brochure Consumer Rights in Illinois: Answering the questions about where to go and who to contact for financial matters in the State of Illinois. The brochure, printed in English and Spanish, will educate consumers on how to remedy unfair, illegal and fraudulent business practices, and be distributed through partnerships with community organizations.
