01.06.10 Progress through Partnership

Happy new year from Chicago Appleseed and the Chicago Council of Lawyers! We have exciting things planned for 2010, and we appreciate your continued support and partnership.

The Top 5 Things You Can Do for the Council

Resolve to get involved in 2010

1. Join or renew your membership now. CCL members contribute to our mission of reform, accountability, and justice through ongoing projects.

2. Join a committee. The Civil Liberties Committee, Family and Law Committee and Professional Ethics and Responsibility Committee are always looking for new members.

3. Assist with judicial evaluations. We are looking for volunteers to conduct initial investigations and assist in conducting follow-up investigations to ensure the highest quality evaluation.

4. Attend an MCLE forum. The Chicago Council of Lawyers features several MCLE forums throughout the year on topics such as criminal court reform, immigration court reform, judicial election reform and more.

5. Spread the word about the Council. If you are already a member, then talk to your friends and colleagues about joining the Council. We can create positive change in our field and our community by working together.

For more information on these opportunities, contact Executive Director Malcolm Rich at 312-988-6552 or malcolmrich@chicagocouncil.org.

Council Posts Judicial Evaluation Results for Primary Election

The next judicial election is February 2, 2010 and early voting begins January 11, 2010. In this election, voters in Cook County will fill three Appellate Court vacancies, eight countywide vacancies, and fourteen vacancies in the judicial subcircuits. Once again, the Chicago Council of Lawyers has prepared a report on the judicial candidates, including judicial ratings and the reasons for those ratings...

The Top 5 Things You Can Do for Chicago Appleseed

We appreciate your support!

1. Make a tax-deductible donation. Last year, more than 80 individuals contributed over $140,000 in donations and cy pres awards (see list below). These donations came in despite the troubled economy. You can help us continue our work by making your contribution today.

2. Attend our events. Every year, Chicago Appleseed hosts several events, fundraisers and forums for our friends and supporters. We'd love to see you there!

3. Donate pro bono assistance to our projects. You'll find a list of opportunities here.

4. Facilitate an in-kind donation. Do you have access to printing services? Chicago Appleseed needs access to these donations for reports, publications and more.

5. Join us on Facebook. Show your support online!

For more information on making a donation of time, money or talent to Chicago Appleseed, please contact Amanda Grant at 312-988-6599 or agrant@chicagoappleseed.org.
