Immigration Court Reform:
- The Adler School’s Institute on Public Safety and Social Justice will be hosting a panel discussion “A Dream Deferred: The Mental Health Implications of Being Undocumented” on November 1. Last year, the Immigrant Youth Action League collected personal stories about the DREAM Act and how being undocumented impacts one’s mental health.
- The Wall Street Journal blogs about difficulties implementing Georgia’s controversial immigration law, parts of which were blocked by a Federal judge earlier this year.
Community Justice:
- As part of the upcoming Pro Bono Week, the Chicago Bar Foundation and the Chicago Bar Association are sponsoring a workshop which simulates the hardships faced every day by low-income clients in different family situations.
- The City Clerk of Madison, Wisconsin tested the new voter ID law in a mock election, finding significant increase in the amount of time needed to cast some ballots.
- The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law has joined in calling on TransUnion to halt the sale and promotion of pre-employment credit checks.
