The ISBA reported last week that Chief Justice Thomas L. Kilbride and the Illinois Supreme Court announced (.pdf download press release) the “formation of a long-range planning committee to serve as a ‘think tank’ to better adapt Illinois courts to future trends in economic, technological, scientific and social changes.” The Committee is intended to allow the judiciary to better anticipate issues before they become critical and to create strategies for adapting with changes as they occur. Cook County Circuit Judge Michael B. Hyman will serve as chair. In talking to the Chicago Law Bulletin about the Committee (article available via subscription only), he noted particularly the need to bring modern technologies into our court systems.
Chicago Appleseed looks forward to the work of the Committee, particularly with regard to modern technology and the courts.
