Elections and Judicial Performance
- The Midwest Democracy Network has the rundown on a new poll of American attitudes toward corporate money in politics. For the most part, Americans feel it’s damaging to the democratic process.
Feministing ran a story about a group trying to mute the campaign advertising noise in Ohio.
Courts and Judicial Performance
- The Illinois Supreme Court announced the adoption of electronic records standards, intended to pave the way for e-filing in all our courts.
NCSC resources on e-filing. The Illinois e-filing pilot project was announced in January of this year.
Criminal Justice
- The First Annual Justice for Youth Summit, organized by the Campaign for Youth Justice was held earlier this month. Just Policy blog has a great report on one panel discussion from the summit.
- The Crime Report offers commentary on Cook County Board President Preckwinkle’s announcement that she has dropped plans for a bullet tax. WBEZ discusses the announcement and a proposed “Gun Court”.
- The Sentencing Project released a report this month on use of teleconferencing instead of family visits for prisoners. The report notes the potential for facilitating contact with prisoners, when travel is difficult or cost-prohibitive, but is concerned that it not be used as an excuse to limit in-person visits.
- The Daily Herald has a piece on DuPage County diversion programs.
On the 20th anniversary of Nevada’s dug court, state Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Cherry said “No court program has had such a positive impact on the criminal justice system, the prison system and crime in general than Nevada’s drug courts.”
