- The American Constitution Society has released an issue brief on state and local efforts to create and enforcement immigration law.
- The Southern Poverty Law Center was granted access to immigrant detention records in Louisiana, as it seeks to determine whether state and local law enforcement agencies are using “immigration detainers” to hold immigrants for unconstitutionally excessive periods.
- Last week the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights held a forum on the need for driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants.
The Lake County Sheriff joined with the Highway Safety Coalition in advocating measures to license all drivers, and many of Chicago’s alderman are also expressing support.

- A Seattle Times editorial argues that its recently passed initiative which regulates and licenses recreational marijuana offers a great opportunity to fund meaningful reform in its criminal courts.
The Police Guide to the initiative has been generating a lot of media attention.
