Giving Tuesday is Here!
Today, Tuesday November 29th is Giving Tuesday.
Research into individual charitable giving shows that giving is a fundamentally social act. A 2004 study found that our impulse to give is stronger when we see our friends or people we admire donating, and a 2014 Red Cross survey shows that we give when our friends give. That’s the spirit of #GivingTuesday: making our philanthropy communal.
Chicago Appleseed participates in Giving Tuesday because our model for reform is collaborative. You, our individual donors—many of you our colleagues, family, and friends—are not just supporters but full partners in the push for reform. Your participation in Giving Tuesday inspires all of us by demonstrating strong public commitment to meaningful change.
In that spirit of collective generosity and inspiration, a few of our long-term donors have offered the following reasons for supporting Chicago Appleseed through their annual giving:
- The courts in Chicago aren’t easy, or even always just, and Chicago Appleseed is working with the courts and lawyers in those courts to try to fix them. —Dave Stanford
- I am always impressed how far my time and financial contributions to [Chicago] Appleseed stretch, particularly given their small staff; the Appleseed team truly makes change happen that contributes to necessary systemic reform! —Associate at Paul Hastings LLP
- I believe that systemic reform of our courts is critically important, and Chicago Appleseed is one of the only organizations with the intellectual capital, vision, and relationships to accomplish those reforms. —Katy
- Chicago Appleseed does smart, effective work at reforming the court system and expanding access to justice. —Dave
- I really appreciate the work you do with voteforjudges.org —Jessica
Community matters. Whether you are part of Chicago Appleseed’s community of donors, our pro bono network, or are another kind of supporter, your efforts sustain our work. We are honored to be part of such a generous community committed to the improvement of our courts and the City of Chicago. Thank you.
While Giving Tuesday focuses on small donors and individual supporters, we want to take this moment to also acknowledge and thank our long-time law firm sponsors: Badesch Family Law; Baker & McKenzie; DLA Piper LLP; Goldberg Kohn; Harrison Held; Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym; Jenner & Block; Kirkland & Ellis; Latham & Watkins; Loevy & Loevy; Miller Shakman & Beem; Miner Barnhill & Galland; Schiff Hardin; Sidley Austin; and Skadden Arps. We are very grateful both for their continued monetary support and for the commitment of their attorneys who serve on our committees and boards, providing thousands of hours of work on collaborative projects every year. Our work would not be possible without them.
Chicago Appleseed is also the proud recipient of grants from Adult Redeploy Illinois, the Chicago Community Trust, Chicago Foundation for Women, and Woods Fund Chicago.
